Our Safety Our Responsibility

The theme plays a major role in the lives of the Staff of JIC. We celebrated World Health & Safety day on 28-04-2015 and reaffirmed the commitments we have towards health and safety of our stakeholders.

In order to make our staff understand the Importance of effective safety culture within the organization, Loganathan Murthy – Head HSET, made a presentation on 5 W’s (WHY, WHERE, WHAT, WHEN & WHO) of Safety. In his presentation he explained the importance of safety. To ensure that we lead a happy life, one has to inculcate safety as his routine and not consider it as a burden. He also mentioned that safety is not a new concept or requirement but it is practiced from childhood and it’s been part of our lives. He said everyone is a safety ambassador in our organization and we consider it as our responsibility and our duty.

In our question hour, one of our employees from the Dining Department said that “I used to play cricket and other games with proper protective gears and I believe that’s how we can protect ourselves for the injuries. I used to follow safety measures since my childhood.” - Utpal Kumar

There was also a competition conducted on the Importance of safety. Our employees must have taken acting classes on the side because they enacted plays depicting their understanding on safety as a culture and they did a damn good job on that. Every other team, a total of 4 came up with a unique yet simple concept and it was completely communicated.

Each team performed on the areas like driving safe, heat stress, work place hazards, trip and fall so on and so forth. The major focus was on work safety and the message was a bang in between the drums on how important safety is in our daily lives. The competition was tough and so was the decision. The Team Grinders won the competition due to their makeup ( they were dressed with powder on their faces) and executing the theme Work Place Safety.

Sugin our Operations Manager shared his words of wisdom on Safety. He said, ‘Safety is No Single Person’s Responsibility but Everybody’s Responsibility’.

He also shared an incident that took the life of his colleague. That colleague of his lost his life because he did not exercise caution at work place and did not follow the safety procedures. In his speech he said if there is any safety concern at work place, it has to be reported immediately and they should continue to adhere to safety and follow it at all times.
